NASCAR NIGHT RACING AT IRWINDALE
Super Stocks & Bandoleros Both Back Saturday!

Irwindale, Calif. – – NASCAR Nights at Irwindale are always a great way to cool off a bit after a hot day (unless, of course, you’re a racing driver in the middle of a torrid Championship points chase).

This Saturday four of the divisions on the night’s event card have close (and closer) points totals at just about half-way in the 2017 competition season…PLUS two other divisions will be making a special appearance for the fans … There’s ton of hot racing on the track and some cool breezes up in the stands … enjoy.

In the track’s premier division, the LKQ Pick Your Part Late Models, only 38 points separate first and second place after the first 11 races of the 20-race 2017 season. Adding to the fun (tension really) is the fact that the two drivers locked in that tight battle are teammates!

Trevor Huddleston, from Agoura Hills, has 528 points, and Dylan Garner, from Yorba Linda, has 490 markers on points standing page in the track’s website (www.irwindaleeventcenter.com).

Pointing up the fact that consistency and good finishes are vital under Irwindale’s points plan, Huddleston has won 7 races so far and Garner has not tasted victory in even one. However … his strong runs and high placings at virtually every event he’s run have kept his car number high up on the points listings page.

Last year a rookie, this year a real contender: La Mirada’s Ryan Vargas is trying to make every race count too and doing a good job of it with his 454 points and his third place standing in the Late Models coming in to Saturday’s set of two (full, points-paying) races at the Speedway.

At the July 1 Late Model race, Toni Marie McCray’s #90 car, (the apparent winner on the track in both of the night’s races), failed to pass a post race technical inspection and the popular driver from Highland dropped down to tenth place in the standings.

In the INEX Legend Cars, Lakeside’s Darren Amidon has a 20-point lead over Bakersfield’s Colton Page 196 to 176 after four races in their 10-race season. Austin Farr, from Lomita, and Chad Schug from Oak Hills are hanging close only 10 points behind Page and tied for third place at 166 each. Legend Cars are technically-identical, purpose-built racing cars powered by a 1,250cc sealed (unmodified and tamper-proof) Yamaha motorcycle engine and the competition is ALWAYS guaranteed close in this division.

Robby Hornsby has a perfect game going after the first three events in the Sharkey’s Spec Late Models, his score line reading: 50, 50, 50. (That’s three wins).

But, once again, consistency pays off at the Speedway and Sierra Madre’s Todd Conrad, with two seconds and a third behind Hornsby, is only 8 points back of the Yucaipa driver at 142. And … Just 2 scant points back of Conrad, there’s Ed Cutler from Ventura at 140. These machines (except for the paint schemes and the racing numbers on the doors) are, like the Legend Cars, technically identical, and the ultra-close lap times and tight points tallies are proof of the supposition.

The Robertson Solar Southwest Tour Trucks will be back on Saturday night for the seventh race in their 14-race 2017 season. Ronnie Davis leads the spec trucks in with 334 points, with Mike Kelperis and Derek Robertson not very far behind at 290 and 284 points respectively.

And, on Saturday night two Irwindale fan favorites will be back for the evening: the Jan’s Towing Super Stocks and the Jan’s Towing Bandoleros will both be back and running hard on Irwindale’s tricky inner third-mile course.

Gates open at 4pm, the On-Track Autograph Session featuring all of the above (and many more) driver, crews and cars starts at 5:45pm, the night’s opening ceremonies are at 6:45pm, and racing starts right on the dot at 7pm.
